India is a mecca of tea—no country in the world consumes more, and only a few produce more. Though this beverage has an ancient history in India, it was only during British colonial era that it became a major part of the Indian culture. Tea plantations were set up to help quench British thirst for it, and the mass production of one of the world’s most popular beverages has been in place ever since.

Traveling to see one of the great tea centers of the world on an East India tour not only provides an opportunity to try the many exquisite teas on offer here. It allows travelers to see the tea-making process firsthand, to interact with the plantation owners and workers and to get a glimpse of a unique subculture within India. It also happens to bring you through the Indian Himalayas—home to some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. Why not set off on a tour of India tea?
