Itinerary Overview
This 10 – day cultural and trekking itinerary includes visiting the sights of the Kathmandu Valley and trekking in the Everest region to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Khumjung, Khunde, Monjo, and Lukla. While trekking, there are beautiful views of the mountains.
Arrive Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Meet and assist by our representative outside the arrival lounge. Transfer to the hotel.
In the evening, enjoy the welcome dinner at a Nepalese restaurant with a cultural show.
After breakfast, explore Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur (also called Bhadgaon) is a Newar city founded in the 9th century. Visit the ancient gateway, Durbar Square, the Royal Residential Quarter of Bhupatindra Malla, the famous five storied Nyatapola Temple in a pagoda style, Batsala Temple, Bhairavnath Temple, Duttatraya Temple, Pujari Math, and the Palace of 55 Windows.
In the afternoon, visit Patan. Sites include the historic Durbar Square, the golden gate, the sky piercing Teleju Temple, and the statue of Yogendra Malla, other small temples, old carved windows and balconies of wood, curio shops, and bazaars.
On the way back to the hotel visit the Tibetan refugee camp.
After breakfast, proceed for a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. Visit the Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu Durbar Square), an ancient durbar (palace) with its numerous old palaces, temples and pagodas, the Temple of the Living Goddess “Kumari” and the Kasthamandap Temple, which is believed to be constructed from the wood of a single tree from which Kathmandu derives its name.
Drive to Swayambhunath Stupa situated on the top a hill from where you have a bird’s eye view of Kathmandu Valley. The Swayambhunath Stupa is also known as the “Monkey Temple”.
Afternoon is free at leisure to explore the Thamel area.
Take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,880 m).
After a short break, the trek starts by following the trail leading in the northwest direction, which ultimately descends to the river at Phakding (2,652 m). The trek takes 3 hours.
After breakfast, trek to Namche Bazaar (3,447 m). Follow the Bhote Koshi through the forest and pasture land, along the valley dotted with small Sherpa settlements. Cross the Bhote Koshi and climb uphill to the large sherpa village of Namche Bazaar. Near the half way point, a view of Everest (8,848 m) and Lhotse (8,511 m) comes into sight. This prosperous town is the largest one in Khumbu. Mt. Thamserku (6,648 m) and Kwangde-Ri (6,624 m) loom along the east and west of the village. The sacred mountain Khumbila (5,707 m) dominates the skyline along the west. The trek takes five hours.
After breakfast, explore the Sherpa Villages of Khumjung and Khunde above Namche Bazaar.
Walk to the checkpoint to show the permits. Then walk uphill for a short period to reach a huge prayer stone from where the path straightens, and have magnificent views of some of the Himalayan ranges.
After breakfast, back track to Monjo (2,860 m). The trek is five to six hours.
After breakfast, back track to Lukla (2,880 m). The trek is five hours.
Early morning, fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla.
On arrival assisted transfer to the hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
After breakfast, you will be assisted for your transfer to Kathmandu International Airport to connect for the flight for your onward destination.
