It is com-pletely isolated from the Andes Mountains, and its snowy peaks of Cristóbal Colón and Simón Bolívar, at 5,775 and 5,770m above sea level, are the highest of Colombia. It is an ancient settlement of the Tayrona civilization and is considered to be, along with Machu Picchu, one of the most important ar-chaeological sites in South America. The Lost City is at an altitude of 900 – 1,300m, in the foothills of the Cerro Correa peak, in the north-western part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
